I’m a stress eater. The past few years have been quite stressful for our family, and my weight has ballooned. I decided to go on a diet, and although I was following the diet for several weeks quite strictly, I wasn’t losing any weight. I would lose a little one day and gain it back the next. My wife, Jo, asked if I had prayed about it. It had never occurred to me to pray about my weight. That evening, we were visiting the home of our friends Dean and Patti, and I asked them to pray for me and my weight. That was 11 days ago, and I have lost 10.8 pounds so far.
The Lord gave me free will, and he doesn’t violate it. Even though he knew I wanted to lose weight, he didn’t act until I asked. I realized how slack I had become in my morning prayers by not asking the Lord to intervene in all aspects of my life.
